Choosing the Right Trash Service

Man on Phone | Trash Pickup Trash Service | Panhandle Dumpsters

Finding a trash service company can be tricky. If you’re looking for a friendly, reliable trash service provider, you’re in the right place. Keep reading this comprehensive guide on what questions to ask before you hire a waste removal company.

Service Area Map | Eastern Panhandle WV | Panhandle Dumpsters

What Is Your Service Area?

When considering trash service, you first want to ensure that the company you are considering operates in your area.

Even if two rubbish removal companies are located in close proximity to one another, they may have extremely different service areas. If your home or business is located within the company’s service area, keep probing for information to ensure that they are a good fit for you.

What Services Do They Offer?

If a trash service provider operates in your area, you also need to make sure that they offer the services you are interested in. It’s great to find a trash service that offers weekly trash removal; however, that’s not necessarily helpful if you’re looking for additional services.

Rubbish removal needs change, you may need to rent a dumpster or have your recycling removed. Keep looking for service providers until you find one that offers a wide variety of services. For instance, we provide both residential and commercial trash removal services, including:

  • Weekly commercial garbage pickup
  • Monthly bulk pickup
  • Weekly residential rubbish pickup
  • Rolloff dumpster rental

What Size Dumpsters Do You Rent?

If a trash service company offers roll-off or permanent dumpster rentals, make sure the dumpsters are large enough for your needs.

We offer commercial clients 30-yard dumpsters that are 20 feet in length, eight feet in width, and 6.5 feet in height.

Similarly, we offer residential clients 30-yard dumpsters with the same height and width dimensions as the commercial dumpsters. However, the residential roll-off dumpsters are 23 feet in length.

What Weight Capacity Do You Have?

If you’re planning to rent a dumpster, you should be aware of the dumpster’s maximum weight limit. For commercial clients, we will haul away three tons of waste for a low flat rate. Every additional ton hauled away will be subject to a fee of $89 per ton.

Similarly, we offer our residential clients a great deal on roll-off dumpsters. We will remove two tons of waste for a low flat rate. Every additional ton hauled away will be subject to a fee of $89 per ton.

What Is Your Pricing Structure?

It is also important to have a thorough understanding of a company’s pricing structure before you decide whether you want to hire them.

Whether you’re looking for waste removal from a one-bedroom apartment, a large house with an accessory dwelling unit, or a business, you probably have a budget. Reputable trash service companies will be upfront about their pricing structure. If a company is not upfront about the cost to you, keep looking.

Do You Offer Discounts?

You should also make sure to ask about any discounts that may be available before you decide which trash service company to hire.

For example, you may be eligible for a discount if you are at least 65 years of age, a first responder, or an active duty or honorably discharged member of the armed forces.

While you’re looking for ways to save money, ask about whether there are discounts available for bundling services. Also, if you’re looking for commercial waste removal services rather than residential waste removal services, ask about potential discounts for builder accounts.

How Much Do I Have to Pay for My Garbage Can?

Find out how much you will have to pay for your garbage bin before determining which trash service is the best fit for you.

We offer all of our clients a free garbage bin regardless of whether they already have one. However, if, for whatever reason, you decide to cancel your waste removal service, you will be charged $75 if the garbage can is not returned or put out to the street to be collected within two weeks of your cancellation.

What Is Your Waste Removal Schedule?

To ensure your waste is hauled away in a timely manner, find out what day of the week or month waste will be removed from your property. Additionally, be sure to ask what time the trash service company expects to be in your neighborhood to remove your waste. Depending on your schedule, you may want to put your waste bin by the road the night before the pickup.

Furthermore, you should inquire regarding how federal holidays affect the waste removal schedule. Some companies may offer bulk pickup services on the first Monday of the month. You don’t want to be caught by surprise if the first Monday of the month is a federal holiday and your refrigerator, washing machine, or chest of drawers is still sitting by the side of the road Tuesday morning.

How Much Garbage Will You Pick Up Weekly?

People Picking Up Trash | Panhandle Dumpsters

You should also be aware of how much garbage a company will remove from your property weekly. We will remove whatever fits into a 96-gallon garbage can once per week. However, this garbage must be bagged.

We understand that you will sometimes need more than 96 gallons’ worth of garbage removed at once. On such occasions, we will pick up additional garbage for different flat rates. Specifically, if you put out an extra garbage can, we will remove it for $5. Garbage in kitchen bags will be picked up for $1 per bag, and garbage in contractor bags will be picked up for $3 per bag.

What Won't You Pick Up?

It is very important to ask a trash service company what they cannot pick up before you hire them.

Some companies may not offer bulk pick up or recycling. Make a list of the important services you need a company to provide and keep looking until you find the right one.

Are You Licensed and Insured?

It’s important to verify that the garbage service provider you are considering is operating legitimately. Make sure that their drivers have CDLs (commercial driver’s licenses). Additionally, make sure that they have a license issued by the city that indicates they adhere to environmentally-friendly garbage disposal best practices.

Furthermore, it is a very good idea to verify that the company you are considering is insured. Note, proper insurance is required for a license to be granted. Therefore, if the company is insured appropriately, you can feel confident that they are licensed.

Do You Have Customer Reviews I Can Peruse?

A major red flag, whether you’re looking for a trash removal service company or another type of business, is a lack of online reviews. We proudly display our customer reviews.

There are several questions you need to ask before you hire a residential trash pickup service. The most important question to ask is what is your service area. If a company operates in your area, you should also make sure that they offer the services you are looking for at an affordable rate.

Don’t Throw This in the Garbage

Reuse Jars | Garbage | Eastern Panhandle WV Trash Pickup | Panhandle Dumpsters

Reusing things that you might otherwise throw in the garbage is a great way to be frugal. It can also help cut down on how much you’re contributing to the landfill. And while we’re certainly not advocating that you go as extreme as those fine folks over on Extreme Cheapskates, there is a time and place for getting crafty in what you do with various odds-n-ends around the house.

If you want to save money and also get plenty of use out of what others consider garbage, here are some things you might find in your waste bin that can be repurposed instead of thrown out.

Ice Trays

Ice trays are always one of those seasonal things that can be found in the Targets’ Bullseye’s Playground & Dollar Bin area. And while they are super fun, the excess around the house can mean they wind up on the chopping-block.

The small, separated compartments in the trays make them perfect for storing and organizing small tid-bits instead. Conveniently store your nails and screws, crafting supplies, small random junk-draw contents, or just about anything else to repurpose those trays instead of tossing it in the garbage.

Toothbrushes

Good dental hygiene means swapping out your toothbrush every few months! But don’t be too quick to throw your old brush in the garbage.

Slightly worn-out toothbrushes can make great cleaning tools, helping you get at hard-to-reach areas with ease. Cheap electric toothbrushes work even better, taking on a little more of the elbow-grease needed to get a true shine.

Old Clothes

While it may not be in-style or in-size to wear anymore, think twice about throwing out any old clothes.

Any garment can be repurposed into a fashionable accessory with the right tools and a little DIY know-how. Checkout some of these creative and fun finds over on lifehack.org!

An even easier option would be to use old clothes as rags for cleaning. This is much cheaper than going out and buying dishrags separately.

Coffee Bag Ties

I know – but hear me out!

Many bags of coffee have heavy-duty ties that keep the bag sealed airtight to keep the product fresh. While you could throw them in the garbage without a second thought, these versatile little ties can help you stay organized. Keep wires, cords, or ropes untangled by bundling them before storage. They also make great little garden helpers to keep plants supported!

To-Go Coffee Cups

Don’t trash that disposable coffee cup, either!

Most of these cups make great little starter pots that you can put seeds and soil in to start your garden indoors! Especially if your coffee place uses eco-friendly cups that are compostable. You can put the whole container in the ground once the seedling is ready to go out into the world.

Peanut Butter Jars

And jelly jars. And baby food jars…really, anything with a good lid!

If you like doing DIY projects, you probably know what a hassle it can be when small odds and ends such as bolts or fastenings go missing. Use old jars to store small items. You can even screw the lids into the bottom of your workbench shelf to make it super accessible!

Milk Crates

A truly classic upcycled storage bin.

If you don’t have any shelving that can fit into a tight space where you need storage, old milk crates can be repurposed to do the job. Screw them into wall studs and you’ll have sturdy and plentiful storage that can easily be organized with different compartments.

Socks

The perfect duster!

Dusting in difficult-to-reach places, like the space in between blinds on a window, can be made a whole lot easier by using an old pair of socks. Just slip them over your hands and use them to brush the space in between the blinds. Your old socks will get a new purpose, and your house will be more dust-free than ever before.

We suggest using your husbands socks, since they are bigger and he already doesn’t care what they look like.

Vintage Bottles

Farmhouse and vintage chic are in!

Glass bottles have an old-fashioned charm to their appearance. Why not make the most of them by using them as accent pieces in your home? Turn these eclectic little finds into scent diffusers that look as good as they smell.

Simply fill the bottle with a 3:1 mix of water and rubbing alcohol, then add your favorite essential oil.

There are plenty of things you might be throwing in the garbage that can be given a new purpose to reuse instead.

For everything else, let our residential trash pickup service dispose of it so you don’t have to deal with the clutter.
